What’s Deforestation?
Imagine if someone gave Earth the worst haircut ever by cutting down lots and lots of trees without planting new ones. That’s deforestation! And just like a bad haircut makes us sad, deforestation makes our Earth sad too.
Why Trees Are Earth’s Superheroes
Trees have AMAZING superpowers! Here are some of their coolest abilities:
- They make clean air for us to breathe (one big tree makes enough oxygen for FOUR people for a whole day!)
- They’re like apartment buildings for animals (one tree can be home to HUNDREDS of different creatures!)
- They help make rain (they’re like nature’s sprinkler system!)
- They keep our Earth cool (like a giant green umbrella!)
- They give us yummy fruits and paper for our drawings

Did you know?
- Trees can talk to each other underground through their roots – like a secret tree internet!
- Some trees can live for THOUSANDS of years (that’s older than your grandparents’ grandparents’ grandparents!)
- Some trees smell like chocolate or candy (yum!)
- Trees have friends and families in the forest
- The tallest trees are as high as 30 giraffes standing on top of each other!
Why We Need to Save Our Tree Friends
Without trees:
- Animals like monkeys, birds, and koalas lose their homes
- The air gets dirty (trees are like nature’s vacuum cleaners!)
- We get less rain
- Earth gets too hot (like a room without an air conditioner!)

- Use both sides of paper when drawing
- Plant a tree in your garden (with a grown-up’s help!)
- Recycle paper and cardboard
- Tell your friends why trees are awesome
- Use bags that you can use again and again
The Rainforest: Nature’s Biggest Zoo
Did you know that rainforests are like nature’s biggest zoo? They’re home to more than half of all animal species in the world! That means if you took all the different types of animals on Earth and lined them up, more than half of them would live in rainforests!
Remember: Trees are like Earth’s best friends – they keep our planet happy and healthy. When we protect trees, we’re helping ourselves and all the animals too!
